Port of Melbourne Authority takes delivery of Sealite Trident 3mtr Ocean Buoys
The Port of Melbourne Corporation took delivery of a series of Sealite TRIDENT-3000 ocean buoys this month, which will be installed to mark a ‘transit only’ area around the main shipping channel at the entrance of Port Phillip Bay.
The TRIDENT-3000 is one of the largest rotationally-molded buoys available, with a float diameter of 3 meters and lantern focal height of up to 5 meters. The float section of the TRIDENT-3000 is built from four rotationally-molded quadrants, which fasten together to form an incredibly robust 3 meter wide float section standing 1.8 meters tall.
Each quadrant is molded from UV stabilized virgin polyethylene, and has a 12mm wall thickness. In addition, each section is filled with closed-cell polyurethane - preventing the ingress of moisture in the unlikely event of damage.
The TRIDENT-3000 can be supplied in varying configurations – for this project, the port chose the innovative post-tower design which incorporates retro-reflective wraps for enhanced visibility.
The buoys were supplied with the latest Sealite SLC420 model lanterns, which incorporate GPS synchronisation – to enable all lanterns to flash together and readily identify the transit area to users at night.
The SLC420 is a robust completely self-contained Solar LED Marine Lantern. It incorporates 4 x 4watt solar modules integrated into a cast aluminium assembly, and mounted to collect sunlight at all angles. The 36 LED light source enables even greater light intensity.
