Port of Melbourne Corporation Deploy 58x SL96 Leading Lights for Swanson Dock
The Port of Melbourne Corporation have recently installed 58x sets of Sealite SL96 4ft LED leading lights and power systems.
The 28pc green and 30pc blue LED leading lights have been installed around the Port of Melbourne at Swanson Dock and the adjacent “Turning/Swing Basin”.
Swanson Dock (west & east) has a number of berths used for containerized cargo. Recent dredging has now enabled even larger vessels to enter the port, than previously allowed. With the entrance of such larger vessels into the port, a new “Turning/Swing Basin” was built which allows pilots to maneuver vessels in the tight turning & docking area. Sealite SL96 leading lights were installed to enable the pilots to check their positioning.
Sealite leading lights were installed in sets of 3 to make a triangle shape.
1x set of SL96 green leading lights show the centre line of the deepest part of the channel, while a set of blue SL96 leading lights are positioned 40 metres on either side of the green leading lights as “Shoulder Leads”. These shoulder leads allow the pilots to check alignment from the left and right extreme positions of the vessels bridge.
Some of the Sealite SL96 leading lights have replaced existing flurotube which were not considered bright enough.
Sealite was thanked by the POM Corporation for helping the project come in on time and budget.
Since it’s introduction in 1993, the Sealite SL96 4ft LED leading light has become a popular sight around the shorelines of the Australian coastline and around the world, and is now available with GPS Synchronisation and GSM monitoring. The new circuit board accommodates up to 3 rows of LEDs in each strip (288 LEDs in total), making the Sealtie SL96 leading lights the perfect solution for safe vessel navigation.
